Simply 3D, Pixel 3D, and Ray Dream 3D
Article Abstract:
Micrografx's $89.95 Simply 3D graphics and imaging utility, easy to use due to its Microsoft Office-like interface, allows beginners to create excellent images with shadows and reflections. Simply 3D includes 400 objects, 100 textures and 50 animation presets, which can be drag-and-dropped onto any object. Moreover, several animation presets can be placed, or nested, onto the same object. MetaCreations' $149 Ray Dream 3D is a less expensive, simplified version of Ray Dream Studio 5, but without filters, Boolean operations, physics animation and inverse kinematics. Ray Dream 3D's crowded interface is likely too complex for beginners, with too many options, requesters and toolbars. However, the quality of Ray Dream 3D's finished images is excellent. JASC's $69 Pixel 3D imaging utility offers some high-end features, such as smooth and responsive real-time controls, but is awkward to use because it has no drag-and-drop capacities.

Deneba Canvas 6
Article Abstract:
Deneba Software's $375 Canvas 6.0 brings this omnibus image processing package, which combines elements and features from layout, presentation graphics, vector, paint, and Web authoring programs, closer to its marketing target. One of the outstanding features is Deneba's SpriteLayer technology, which enables the user to navigate easily between vector and bitmap images and text. Another excellent feature is the Colada technology, which uses Java to export a layout as a Web page, showing zoomable high-resolution vector objects without the need for a separate plug-in. One drawback of this program can be slow processing times.
