HiJaak 95; Transverter Pro 3.0
Article Abstract:
Inset Systems' $95 HiJaak 95 for Windows 95 image manipulation program's new interface looks and feels like the Windows 95 interface. It supports an impressive 40 different file formats. It has a good viewer that lets the user alter images with contrast, brightness, cropping and various color controls. HiJaak features a neat tool for showing graphics files as icons. The Catalog feature for keyword searches is very useful. The image capture feature is completely reliable. TechPool Software's $395 Transverter Pro 3.0 for Windows 95 concentrates on converting PostScript files. This version features better font handling, the ability to read Adobe Acrobat PDF files, fractional file output and text to outline conversion. Transverter Pro is a speedy application, even on low-end machines. It is however deficient in its final image controls.

Adobe Acrobat 3.0
Article Abstract:
Adobe Systems' $295 Acrobat 3.0, available for both Macintosh and Windows platforms, allows designers to display complex layouts and graphics on screen, exactly as they appear on paper. This release includes Exchange, an implementation of the Acrobat Reader, that allows for links and text to be edited. Furthermore, it offers an easy way to create a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, a utility for converting EPS and PostScript files, an indexing engine, and an OCR program for transforming scanned documents into PDF files. In the past, PDF files were quite large and did not handle fonts well. This release addresses these limitations with a smaller file size and improved font handling. PDF files can now be viewed from within Web browsers, and users also enjoy better multimedia controls.
