Publishing without pretension: Springboard Publisher

Springboard Software's $139.95 page layout program, Springboard Publisher, is available in Macintosh and Apple II versions that function similarly and are competent. Text column frames can be set automatically with the Mac 1.0 version, and Microsoft Word 3.0, Macwrite or ASCII text files can be imported. Type is automatically flowed, but there are no style sheets, the automatic text hyphenation is sometimes awkward and PostScript font sizes are limited between 9 and 72 points. However, text is automatically wrapped around graphics. The 2.0 version for the Apple II imports text from Apple file formats and graphics from ProDOS, but requires a 1Mbyte RAM disk, lacks automatic hyphenation and only wraps text around graphics frames. Only nine sizes of Times and Helvetica PostScript fonts are available, but six more can be added with the Springboard Publisher Fonts package.
