Advertising agencies often consider their clients impediments to the creation of excellent advertising, but a few companies inspire their agencies to do great work. The traits that such companies share include a desire and ability to forge strong partnerships with the ad business' most creative agencies, and perhaps most importantly, backbone. Profiles of Nike, Nissan, Levi's, Polaroid, and Whitbread Beer as advertising clients are presented.
