The merger between two property companies LaSalle based in the US and Jones Lang Wootton in the UK, will give the new company a market capitalisation of around $900 million. They will manage some 650 million sq ft of property and have investments worth 11.9 billion pounds sterling. The new firm will be known as Jones Lang LaSalle. They are planning to expand into South America and have already established an office in Brazil. The company will have 6,000 employees. The management has plans to invest in more information technology and in a few special properties along with some co-investments.

Cushman and Wakefield (CandW) Chairman and Chief Executive Arthur Mirante points out he will be working with Healey and Baker (HandB) Senior Partner Paul Orchard-Lisle to ensure the merger is successful. The deal took several years to finalise. CandW will become the controlling partner of HandB at a cost of 70 million pounds sterling. HandB will pay 25 million pounds sterling to invest in CandW. Both companies saw the need to find an overseas partner in order to operate in the worldwide market. The US firm CandW have 5,550 staff whilst the UK company HandB has 750 employees.

The management of CB Hillier Parker have confirmed their new parent company has left them to manage the UK side of the business. The number of employees in the UK offices has risen by 50 people since they were taken over in Jul 1999. It is anticipated cross-border work will increase in the future as the result of the takeover. CB Hillier Parker is the UK subsidiary of the US firm CB Richard Ellis. CB Richard Ellis took over the UK company Hillier Parker May and Rowden in Jul 1998. CB Richard Ellis had revenues valued at around $1 billion for 1998.
