Bright lights, big city
Article Abstract:
Derby, England, is becoming an attractive area for leisure industry investment, particularly since the authorities have permitted some properties to change usage. Brewery companies are redeveloping city centre sites in Derby mainly to benefit from the large population of students in the city. The student market has encouraged the development of a retail area attracting music and book shops which are popular venues for students. Demand for office space has not resulted in speculative development projects and companies are forced to look at alternative cities for offices.

Future perfect
Article Abstract:
Challenge West Watford is planning to invest 60 million pounds sterling in socio-economic improvements in Watford, England, by 2004. Plans include developing a Cardiff Road relief road and Croxley Rail Link. Little property development work is taking place in the centre of the town at present, but Guardian Properties plans 3,716 sq mt of speculative offices at 51 Clarendon Road. Green Property is considering a building of similar size at 54 Clarendon Road. If both these schemes go ahead, then there could be an oversupply of office space.

Article Abstract:
Extensive regeneration work has been undertaken in Leith, the ports district of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is anticipated that almost 4,000 office workers will be based in the area, with around 3,500 new homes also being developed. Hotels are to be constructed in the area, and leisure operators continue to seek space. A key attraction will be the royal yacht Britannia, which will be berthed directly in front of Ocean Terminal, due to open in Mar 2001.
