Losing on points
Article Abstract:
UK rail commuters in Surrey travel on trains operated by the lowest performing rail operator in the country, according to the Office of Passenger Rail Franchising. The operators, South West Trains, Connex South Central and Connex South Eastern, all paid fines totalling 2.835 million pounds sterling in 1997 for underperforming, while the remaining 9 regional operators paid 2.2 million pounds sterling in 1997. Operators have been criticized for running dirty trains, not running on time and for inadequate station provision.
