Building new paths to growth
Article Abstract:
Extensive investment in upgrading transport infrastructure along the M5 is mainly aimed at fighting traffic congestion. However, it is also having the effect of opening up extensive areas of development land. In Weston-super-Mare, for example, the completion of a dual-carriageway link from junction 21 to the town centre has opened up more than 100 acres for commercial development, while at Severnside, west of the Almondsbury intersection of the M4 and the M5, ICI and RTZ own 3,000 acres, thought to be the largest privately owned employment site in the UK.
