Traffic congestion in Brighton, England, is having a negative impact on property development in the town. Observers believe that the local council cannot continue to both seek to reduce the volume of traffic and boost economic activity. The re-opening of the Churchill Square shopping centre seems to have had a generally positive impact on retailing activity in Brighton. Similarly, the redevelopment of the seafront next to the Palace Pier to establish a 4,645 sq mt leisure scheme could attract more people to the town.

Richardson Barberry has received detailed planning consent for the first phase of its Five Ways development, which will be anchored by Warner Village. The most significant planned leisure scheme is Hampton Trust's Arena Central development. This 300 million pounds sterling scheme will feature a 50-storey tower where Holiday Inn, rebranded as a Crowne Plaza, will be located.

Conran Restaurants is showing interest in the conversion of the former Post Office, whilst some major concept pub chains are also looking for space to move into the city. Both the centre and the outskirts of Glasgow have several multiplex cinemas, with two new cinemas planned for the main retailing areas.
