Clean-up Act
Article Abstract:
Stricter regulation of the UK's financial sector has reduced the scope for money laundering, and those involved in this practice are therefore focusing on new areas where money laundering could be successfully undertaken, particularly the property sector and arts and antiques. Financial advisers to the property industry should be aware that under the terms of the 1993 Criminal Justice Act they are obliged to report any suspected case of money laundering. A 1994 survey indicates that property industry professionals have only a limited understanding of their responsibilities in this area.
