Coshocton County: from 'big ditch' to distribution center

East Central Ohio's Coshocton County was a popular stopover along the 'Big Ditch,' with its canal linking the Great Lakes to the Ohio River. The canal is presently a booming tourist spot that accounts for a large tourist market in the county. In the 1880s, it was used as a main distribution line when the Pennsylvania Railroad began servicing the area. The county's modern economy is serviced by industry, agribusiness and tourism. Big firms such as the Ansell Edmont, a division of Pacific Dunlop, and Pretty Products, a division of Lancaster Colony, began their operations in Coshocton County.

The ability of the state of California to continually attact investments and business relocations lies in the pro-active stance taken by the state government in planning its social and economic infrastructure to fit the requirements of business. Such a pro-active stance becomes a positive cycle of reinvestment that has allowed California to diversify its economic base and continually improve the quality of its already highly-skilled labor pool. This has produced an average growth rate of 10.5% to become a $1 tril economy.

Americans do not know too much about Canada and this may be largely due to Canada's location and climate. However, Canada is important in many ways to the US and it is of vital importance to the Canadian government that the US understand it a little better because decisions taken in the US invariably affect Canadians daily. Canada has worked harder than most other Western markets in dramatically improving its economy and quality of life which has positively affected its trading activities with the US.
