Dig for a planning victory
Article Abstract:
Prior to redevelopment work on a brownfield site a risk-appraisal and a plan of action should be made relating to archaeological finds on the site. A risk-appraisal should go ahead and be included in the plans before they are submitted. Advice on archeological sites can be found in PPG 16 Archaeology and Planning. Special attention has been given by the planning authorities to any development near areas defined as World Heritage Sites. It is more likely the redevelopment of brownfield land will lead to the discovery of archaeological sites and therefore work will be delayed and cost more.
