End of the road
Article Abstract:
British roads are becoming more congested but drivers have no incentive to leave their cars at home and use public transport. In a bid to cut emissions, the government has announced a 10-year plan to reduce pollution. The new National Air Quality Strategy will introduce stringent vehicle emission standards and also requires all local councils to check air quality. However, this strategy is seen by its critics as perpetuating dependence on private cars. One way to reduce the number of cars on the road is to reduce the number of car-dependent, out-of-town developments.
