Europe's 1998 facilities race: the United Kingdom, France, Germany take top honors
Article Abstract:
The UK was ranked number one by Ernst and Young's European Investment Monitor for 1998 in terms of headquarters and expanded facilities, which clearly showed that its decision to forego membership in the European monetary union did not affect investors' enthusiasm. France was ranked second and this was attributed to an increase in North American investments. Germany placed third on the strength of its support services, infrastructure and proximity to Eastern Europe. A surprise finding of the report was the strong showing of Eastern Europe in attracting new investments.
