McDonald's Corp has 1,000 outlets in the UK which serve some 2 million customers daily. McDonald's expanded its operation from the US and into the UK during 1974, when it open its first UK outlet in Woolwich, London, England. The UK division of the company has pioneered using prefabricated modular buildings to house McDonald's outlets. The management recognize the modular design is more suitable for outlets outside the town centre. McDonald's has an annual turnover, in the UK, of 1.2 billion pounds sterling.

The UK property industry should carefully assess the potential opportunities offered by the privatisation of British Rail's freight operations. It is clear from interest shown by foreign multinational concerns and UK institutions that railfreight has good prospects, and property concerns would be wise to seek ways of taking advantage of this. There are already indications that occupiers are looking seriously at rail distribution.
