Gaining ground?
Article Abstract:
There is growing interest in ground rents in the UK, with prices for commercial ground rents rising by 20% since 1994, and prices for residential ground rents doubling over the same period. Ground rents are income from freehold interests in sites where the long leasehold on buildings is owned by another party. Ground rents offer security of income as well as the ownership rights which come with the freehold. However, the Housing Act of 1996, with effect from Oct. 01 1996, could affect the residential market since landlords must inform tenants of any intention to sell a property.
