Gas pilots light the way
Article Abstract:
The UK distribution industry is coming under growing pressure to improve its environmental performance. Some work can be shifted to rail and sea, but it is clear that this will not provide a complete solution. It will therefore be necessary to find ways of making road transport less environmentally damaging, especially in terms of noise and air pollution and traffic congestion. Marks and Spencer plans to replace diesel lorries with a fleet using liquefied natural gas, while Body Shop has been using a truck running on compressed natural gas.

Relaxed attitude
Article Abstract:
Debate on attitudes towards leisure featured strongly at the West London Inward Investment Agency and Whitbread Leisure Conference in Jun 1998. One speaker maintained that it was no longer wise to consider leisure investment in terms of demographics. People are beginning to respond to leisure activities according the nature of the activity rather than according to their age. Another change is that UK people are working longer hours and are seeking more relaxed forms of leisure. Another speaker discussed trends in planning issues.
