The final assessment for candidates taking the Assessment of Professional Competence examinations is based on an interview which will include a presentation followed by questions from the panel. The candidates are expected to show they can act in a professional manner and have an understanding of the rules and By-Laws of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Candidates should be well prepared and have knowledge of recent planning issues. If the candidates pass their assessment they will be able to use the title chartered surveyor and become members of the RICS.

Article Abstract:
Students studying chartered surveying are fully appraised in a final interview prior to gaining election as a Professional Associate. The hour long interview is a part of the Assessment of Professional Competence examination. It entails general questioning in subjects including landlord and tenancy regulations, the principles of valuation, and current professional matters. The student is also expected to give a presentation of some 10 minutes in length. A student who fails the interview assessment will be interviewed again following a period of extra training.
