Implications of the Agricultural Tenancies Bill
Article Abstract:
The UK government's Agricultural Tenancies Bill simplifies the law in relation to such tenancies. It comprises some 30 pages, which is shorter than the previous Act of 1986. There are ommissions such as treatment of subletting, which could lead to problems, and tenant rights are also not covered. Amendments are likely to the bill. The opposition in parliament is concerned for the rights of tenants who could lose their homes on expiry of their tenancies. The government prefers not to change the bill on this issue.

Misdescription: vendors beware
Article Abstract:
Legal decisions on UK real estate cases relating to property descriptions tend to arise when additional information is discovered which buyers were not aware of when they made bids at auction. Damages may be awarded if the point is not a major part of the deal, and the contract may be rescinded if the issue is important. A purchaser of a wine bar was not told the tenant's liquor license had been lost and this was considered an essential part of the deal, with the contract rescinded.
