In dry dock
Article Abstract:
Plymouth Development Corp, which is shortly to be wound up, has failed to make significant progress at its flagship site, Royal William Yard. The responsibility for regenerating this 7.7 ha site, which has a large number of historic buildings, will now pass to English Partnerships. This body will purchase the site for 1 pound sterling. It is hoped that work will now proceed in partnership with developer MEPC, but a further 20 million pounds sterling of public funding will still be required. MEPC will contribute 40 million pounds sterling.

Waterloo's sunrise
Article Abstract:
The local council in Lambeth, London, England, is determined to improve the image of the area around Waterloo station. Development in this area will be closely connected with the regeneration of the South Bank Centre. There are now signs that progress is beginning to be made. The South Bank Centre has appointed architectural firm Rick Mather Associates to report by the end of Oct 1999 on plans for the estate, while Railtrack is looking at redeveloping the 6 ha of Waterloo station and the surrounding area that it controls.
