In pursuit of fairer leasehold deals
Article Abstract:
Some property experts wish to simplify the procedures involved in tenants purchasing their leaseholds so they are completed within 12 weeks. Disagreements between a leaseholder and landlord, when the tenant wishes to purchase the leasehold, are considered by the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT). The Leasehold Reform Acts of 1993 and 1996 allowed tenants to buy their leaseholds. Yet so many cases have been sent to the LVT they can take along time to settle, such as in London, England, where cases are not heard for 12-14 months.
