Landowners turn up heat on prices
Article Abstract:
Distribution companies in the UK often find that the prime development sites are sold to leisure operators or to residential housing developers. Delays in the planning process are often unacceptable to distributers particularly if they require an outlet within a short period of time. Some observers suggest that distributors should examine the extent of their overall outgoings before purchasing land in a prime site as extra costs will reduce profitability. Around the M25 motorway land is already in short supply, with the Midlands becoming an increasing popular location.

A blight on both your houses
Article Abstract:
The UK Interdepartmental Working Group on Blight have been criticised for failing to suggest investors should be treated the same as owners in respect of being able to serve a blight notice. Some observers point out the reform of compulsory purchase must compromise between the interests of the community against the interests of those who are affected by large construction schemes. Others are calling for the length of time compulsory purchase orders (CPO) take to be completed should be reduced. A study found it can take nine years for a highways CPO to be agreed.
