Life in the real world
Article Abstract:
The government of Antigua-Barbuda in the Caribbean is encouraging tourist development on the islands. Tourism accounts for 65% of the GDP of the state which has few natural resources other than its climate and coastline. Malaysian entrepreneur Dato'Tan Kay's Asian Village development typifies the government's attitude to tourism. The government possessed and sold the state's Guiana Island to Dato'Tan for $6 million so that he could develop a 2,250-room holiday village. The development encompasses a staff training establishment and some environmental protection measures.
