Article Abstract:
Retail developments built on the outskirts of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, have not adversely affected city centre shops. Competition for outlets in the city remains buoyant. The 252,000 sq ft Liffey Valley shopping centre has proved very popular although traffic congestion around the site is a problem. The government has introduced a directive to restrict the size of new supermarkets, at 32,293 sq ft. The directive many be a problem for Tesco PLC which was planning to build a large store on a 25 million pounds sterling site outside Dublin.

Article Abstract:
Local agents point out the popularity of the retail market in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland, could have a negative impact on shopping centres in towns on the outskirts of the city. Other agents suggest retailers not situated in the major shopping areas in Glasgow may suffer as the economy slows down. Some agents are concerned the talk of recession may make it happen. There is some evidence retailers are more reluctant to move into new outlets. Prime area rents are not anticipated to reach 200 pounds sterling.
