Ohio hometown: the case for the micropolitan community
Article Abstract:
Ohio occupies perhaps the best industrial location in the country. A survey has shown that it had the highest number of new plants and expansions from the period between 1993-1995, with projects reaching a total of 2,488. The key to its attractiveness as an industrial site is its micropolitan areas, which are defined as cities that have less than 50,000 population. These cities are located at the border between metropolitan areas and the suburbs. Much of the work in these areas are in manufacturing including rubber and plastics, auto components, industrial machinery and jet engines. Ohio Gov. George Voinovich has developed job-generating packages to improve the state's industrial sector. These legislations are presented.

Findlay: a 'best buy.'(Micropolitan Ohio)
Article Abstract:
Findlay, OH, bested other cities in capturing Best Buy Company Inc.'s new distribution facility by immediately responding to the company's requests for water and sewer service. The success of the strategy is owed to the concerted effort of its community, civic and business leaders. Findlay's attractiveness in terms of location is also due to the strong partnership between its public and private sectors. This partnership has generated about 6,000 jobs in the last 10 years since 1985 including activities outside manufacturing, which is Findlay's biggest business.
