Oklahoma City's Andy Burke: dizzying development success in the heartland
Article Abstract:
Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce (OCCC) Senior Vice President W. Andrew Burke was instrumental in attracting a large number of corporate relocations to the city. Investments and relocations to Oklahoma City have added 16,000 new jobs in the metro area alone in 1996, with the work of the Chamber accounting for 9,000 of the jobs. The OCCC developed a five-year action plan to attract new investments to the city, ranging from incentives, facilities and legislations for technology, biotechnology, international facilities and aviation companies. The OCCC went out of its way to raise the initial $10 mil needed to start the action plan. As a result, large companies, such as America Online, American Paging, Boeing and Lucent Technologies have established facilities in the city.

Tenants fluorish, owners scramble in dollar-dominated business park market
Article Abstract:
The oversupply of business park space has proven to be very beneficial to corporate tenants seeking lower occupancy costs. Substantial rental concessions are being offered by most business park operators. Aside from these, amenities such as sandwich shops, meeting and conference rooms, full-service restaurants, jogging trails and printing centers are deemed important factors in luring corporate tenants. High technology telecommunications equipment such as videoconferencing facilities are also being offered. Surveys show that Hawaii has the most expensive business park land while Nebraska offers the cheapest land.
