Power struggle
Article Abstract:
Plans for the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station in London, England, which closed in 1983, have attracted considerable controversy. However, current owner Parkview International London has managed to obtain outline planning permission for mixed uses, and is due to present detailed plans by the end of 1998. It is possible that work could begin as early as spring 1999. Public opinion has generally been in favour of the outline plans, as it is now widely recognized that the site will benefit substantially from redevelopment.

Tightening the reins?
Article Abstract:
Office developers are beginning to compete more fiercely with hotel operators for buildings in the Midtown area of London, England. Whitbread is seeking space in the area for its Travel Inn brand budget hotel, while hotel operators including Stakis and the Groucho Club are also seeking space. Some older buildings are still seen as a good deal, as reflected in Jurys Doyle Hotel Group's plans for a 23 million pounds sterling four-star hotel at the Central Club on Great Russell Street.
