Racing's uncertainties
Article Abstract:
The UK horse racing industry makes around 613 million pounds sterling each year at its 59 racecourses which are valued at 355 million pounds sterling. Some observers suggest that the number of racecourses should be reduced and those that remain should improve and modernize their facilities. Some 5 million pounds sterling was spent on a new stand at Aintree racecourse in Liverpool, England, yet it only hosts around 10 meetings each year. The attendance levels at racecourses in the UK have increased by 26% between 1985-1995 to a total of 4.72 million.

Underground liberator
Article Abstract:
The low rental value of real estate in Central South London, England, is likely to increase once the extension to the Jubilee Line underground railway is completed in Sept 1998. Southwalk and Lambert should become a more popular location for businesses once the new transport link is completed and because rents are low. Development of the area may be hindered because it suffers from a poor reputation as a known site for criminal activity.
