Residential draws the institutional investors

Office investment performance has proved disappointing for institutional investors in the UK over recent years. This is prompting a shift to the residential market, where returns are becoming very attractive, despite high management costs and the complicated legal position regarding private rented accommodation. The UK has residential property worth around 700 billion pounds sterling, compared with commercial property worth 300 billion pounds sterling, but commercial property has traditionally attracted much more investment than the residential sector.

Beyond the Millennium
Article Abstract:
There are already plans to erect structures to mark the Millennium on a 121 ha site at Greenwich, London, England, but the site will also house commercial and residential developments by Port Greenwich, a subsidiary of British Gas. The site will receive extensive investment from this company and the UK government, and some observers feel that this is mistaken, as the site will not repay this investment. They believe that it will be hard to develop the land successfully, even though it is one of the largest sites in central London.
