Scene shift
Article Abstract:
The demand for retail units in Covent Garden, London, England is buoyant with three new outlets expected to each raise around 200,000 pounds sterling in rent annually. Some observers suggest the boom is likely to slow as tenants will not continue to pay higher rents. Prime area rents have risen by 68% to 175-225 pounds sterling per sq ft. Shops away from the centre have rents around 60 pounds sterling per sq ft. Several coffee operators have moved into Fleet Street to the detriment of other outlets. Further units in the Royal Opera retail scheme are expected to be released in 1999.

Dragged back in the game
Article Abstract:
A speculative office development has been let but the rest of the office market in Bradford, England, remains slow. The redevelopment of the Odsal Stadium on the outskirts of Bradford should help improve the quality of leisure outlets in the city. Plans to develop the 188,375 sq ft of space at Vicar Lane will be resubmitted due to a change in the developer. It is hoped the plans will include a new multiplex. There are some plans to redevelop the retail centre in the city, at Forster Square. Local agents report there is some demand for retail space particularly for larger units.

Three schemes and a retailer
Article Abstract:
UK retailer Marks and Spencer is expected to announce its decision regarding the site of its relocation within Truro town centre, Cornwall, UK. Three sites have been put forward as possible developments, with a 1 million pounds sterling former car park being the most favoured because of its proximity to the main shopping area in Truro. The site would provide 14,864 square metres of retail space, including car parking and eating facilities. Other retailers are expected to relocate to the site chosen by Marks and Spencer.
