Heron Founder Gerald Ronson is planning to restore his property company and make it more successful than it was in the 1980s, when it had assets valued at 1.5 billion pounds sterling. He is very involved with the running of the firm and is known to visit several sites located in different countries within a few days. Ronson, along with his father, started Heron in 1965. Heron had debts of 1.3 billion pounds sterling by the late 1980s. By the end of Dec 1997 the debts had fallen to 377 million pounds sterling. The company is now backed by US fund HNV. Ronson served six months in prison in 1990.

Milner's mix and match

Milner Estates combines two different roles within its group by splitting its consultancy and property investment work. Chief Executive Philip Lewis denies the consultancy side of the business gives inside information of possible investments to its investment company. The two parts share some costs to save money. Milner's share price does not recognize its net asset value at 94.8 million pounds sterling. The firm owns 247 million pounds sterling worth of property, with 58% in the retail sector. Margins were at 15.6% and profits reached 4.6 million pounds sterling in 1997.

The management at J Saville Gordon is planning to increase the financial wealth of the company to 100 million pounds sterling in order to extend the company's ownership of industrial property. Some 46 million pounds sterling worth of industrial property was acquired from the Rutland Group in Mar 1997. The new Chief Executive Roger Carey has plans to change J Saville Gordon into a company which specializes in industrial property. Around 53% of the property portfolio held by J Saville Gordon is in the industrial sector.
