Sector sensation
Article Abstract:
Rents at retail parks in the UK rose by just under 11% in 1997 from 1996, compared with growth of 4.7% for standard unit shops. The rise in rents has been fuelled by strong occupier demand and a growing awareness that government planning policy will lead to much stricter controls on supply. The retail park sector attracted total investment of around 1.75 billion pounds sterling in 1997, and around 540 million pounds sterling was invested in retail parks in the first quarter of 1998.

Centre management
Article Abstract:
Distribution and servicing problems in UK town centres are likely to increase as the government seeks to encourage in-town instead of out-of-town development. These problems are also being exacerbated by pressure from environmental groups for lorries to be banned and by pedestrianization schemes. Shopping centre developers must now give particular attention to delivery access, and it has sometimes been necessary to develop innovative solutions.
