Tennessee: tuned in to tomorrow
Article Abstract:
The special appeal of Tennessee for corporate relocations is the state's easy access to 75% of the major US markets. The state is actively seeking investments in transportation equipment, industrial and commercial machinery; rubber and plastics; printing and publishing; business; transportation and health services; music, film and entertainment; tourism; and agriculture and forestry. Tennessee recorded investments of $4.3 bil in 1996 for new and expanded manufacturing facilities, which brought in an additional 28,350 new jobs. Foreign direct investments to the state amounted to $12.8 bil, with a total of 455 multinational firms employing some 106,000 residents.

Enterprise Florida: existing businesses comes first under privatized development program
Article Abstract:
The state of Florida is experiencing positive economic gains due to the privatization of its economic development agency. Florida's Dept. of Commerce has given way to Enterprise Florida, the new lead economic development agency, which is given the mission to lead Florida's emergence as a suitable site for business and industry. The private corporation that Enterprise Florida is with a major concern to meet the needs of existing businesses in Florida will hopefully bring more relocations from word-of-mouth advertising.
