The European Economic Area: an introduction

Article Abstract:

The economies of the 12 member states of the EC and seven members of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) are discussed. Switzerland was also included although it will not join the European Economic Area (EEA) or free trade market created by the EC and the EFTA. Germany, France, Italy and the UK will dominate the EEA due to their high national outputs. The smaller economies of Spain, Ireland, Portugal and Greece are predicted to have increased growth potential after ratification of the EEA.

Article Abstract:

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), established by Congress in 1933 to provide electricity and control floods in the Tennessee Valley, has become an all-important source of cheap power and consequent job opportunities for local residents as firms flocked in, undoubtedly attracted to the low power rates. The TVA is currently headed by Marvin Runyon and has broadened its functions to cover economic development planning and project monitoring.
