The appliance of science
Article Abstract:
London, England, needs more science parks, according to government and local advisory planning committees. Developers are showing an interest, and various bodies have conceptualized some schemes with science park elements, but interest is rooted in mixed developments rather than pure science parks. Proposed mixed developments include the Lee Valley Science and Business Park, promoted by Enfield council and landowners Thames Water, and the London Science Park at Dartford, supported by the local council, the University of Greenwich and Glaxo Wellcome PLC.

Article Abstract:
Rapid Transport International (RTI) has made a planning application for a guided bus network for Northampton, England. The relatively low cost of 40 million pounds sterling would be met by private funds, overcoming the problem of insufficient public funds for public transport. RTI plans a network of five routes, with the core system covering more than 25 miles. It has also made a separate planning application for the redevelopment of Blisworth Station, which was shut down in the 1960s.

Second best moves into first place
Article Abstract:
The London borough of Croydon has a lot of Grade B space in 1960s and 1970s buildings, which must be refurbished if the borough is to attract new occupiers. There is a severe lack of good quality space, and take-up has been very low so far in 1995. However, several key tenants have been attracted recently, including those taking space in Great Portland Estates' refurbishment of Knollys House.
