The future for town centres
Article Abstract:
The UK government has moved toward supporting urban centers through its transportation and retail policy, but there is still demand in the real estate industry for locations outside towns. Urban centers need to attract both pedestrians and investment, but measurement of viability has not been standardised. Large stores can no longer easily obtain permission to locate a new store outside towns. A vicious circle can be created with town centers not attracting investment due to poor interest from consumers, which in turn is due to lack of investment.

Happy ending to an uncertain tale
Article Abstract:
Sheffield, England, has been affected by the development of a new tram system, which has caused temporary disruption to its retail sector but which should bring long term benefits. Towns close to Sheffield are seeing a revival of optimism though they have been hit by a new shopping center outside Sheffield called Meadowhall. Developments include the Alhambra centre in Barnsley.
