The paired share REIT structure and its alternatives
Article Abstract:
The paired share real estate investment trust (REIT) structure and the paper clip alternative and their benefits are discussed. It was shown that the primary advantage of the paired share structure is its ability to own and operate any real estate asset class in a manner that is more tax advantageous than a conventional REIT or C-corporation and its ability to eliminate leakage. For the paper clip alternative, investors are not required to own shares in each side of the structure that are traded separately under different ticker symbols.

REITs and the Russell 2000: implications for small-cap managers
Article Abstract:
The weight of real estate investment trusts (REIT) in the Russel 2000 index is expected by fund mangers and other financial analysts to be pegged between 7% and 9% over the next three years. REIT weightings, which have been steadily increasing since 1994, have improved from 3.0% to 6,0% in the same period. Weighting is forecast to decrease by 7.5% to 8.0% due to the factors which include the movement of stocks to the Russell 1000 index, the listing of new stocks to the Russell 2000 index, and an increase in REIT market caps.
