Town centres of contention
Article Abstract:
The UK government should clarify its policy on development. The policy seems to demand all development outside town centres must stop whilst encouraging urban development. Some towns may lack space for further development and development outside a town may not be detrimental to the town centre. Extension to buildings on out-of-town sites are unlikely to threaten trade within a town. The government has called for development to be sustainable. New buildings must be built on brownfield sites and be served by public transport. The policy includes commercial, retail and residential property.

Eye on the tigers
Article Abstract:
The property market in the Far East is attracting considerable attention from foreign investors as rental prices and capital values decline dramatically. There has been particular interest from US investment banks. It is known that property deals are being sought by Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Security Group Capital and JP Morgan. Local players are no longer active in the market, especially in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong market is widely seen as the most transparent and mature in the region, but is much more expensive than those of other Asian countries.
