Article Abstract:
On April 3, 1945, bank robber and folk hero Willie Sutton escaped, with 11 other inmates, from the Eastern State Pentientiary in Philadelphia, only to fall directly into the hands of the police. The escape attempt was Sutton's fifth, and involved a 122-foot tunnel that Sutton and the other inmates took a year to dig below the prison walls.
