Hands-on P&D plays it tough
Article Abstract:
It appears that Phillips & Drew (P&D), the fund management division of UBS, is taking a more active approach to fund management. Jerzy Wielechowski, P&D's head of corporate governance, reports a shift towards a tougher line on what it sees as underperforming investments. P&D's philosophy of 'value investing,' which aims to ascertain whether the fair value of an asset is accurately mirrored by its share price, has attracted some controversy, but it believes that this approach has been effective and will continue to be effective.

Enic leads the football attack
Article Abstract:
English National Investment Co (Enic), controlled by billionaire financier Joe Lewis, already owns four European football clubs, and is set to shortly announce further purchases. Enic is keen to purchase Alan Sugar's 40% stake in Tottenham Hotspur, and could prove a rival bidder as BSkyB seeks to buy Manchester United.
