At last the children are heard
Article Abstract:
A media investigation which revealed systematic physical and sexual abuse of hundreds of children in care homes across the UK has prompted the government to announce a national inquiry. It has been found that children as young as six were the responsibility of paedophiles and that complaints to the authorities were ignored. The government is also to undertake a separate investigation into abuse at care homes in Clwyd.

Abusers' charter goes unchecked
Article Abstract:
The UK government has failed to take action to ensure that children in residential care homes do not fall victim to sexual or psychological abuse. The present system allows people whose background has not been fully checked to be employed in such establishments, and does not bring prosecutions against people who have committed acts of abuse. Many abused children are badly affected for the rest of their lives.
