When the force is against you
Article Abstract:
Women in the police and the armed forces in the UK frequently face sexual harassment by their male colleagues, despite measures such as codes of good conduct and training courses in equal opportunities. The armed forces have only come within the remit of the Sex Discrimination Act since 1995, and it was only in that year that the first successful sex discrimination case was brought by a female soldier against the Ministry of Defence. In the past, women have simply tried to ignore sexual harassment, but are now gaining the confidence ot speak out.

A battle to satisfy out passion for the stars
Article Abstract:
Hello! magazine has matured recently, but still has great potential for further coverage of the lives of well known people, according to editor Maggie Koumi. Its circulation is currently 500,000 a week, with its main competition having come until recently from tabloid newspapers. However, it is soon to face stiffer competition as OK! magazine, which has a very similar format, shifts from monthly to weekly publication. OK! will attract readers because it has a very British focus, according to editor Richard Barber.

The war that never ended
Article Abstract:
Gulf war syndrome, a strange condition with symptoms including motor neurone disease, cancer and skin rashes, is thought to have affected 740 British soldiers who served in the Gulf war. There is particular concern as it becomes increasingly clear that the condition is also leading to birth defects in the children of these soldiers. The UK government is now launching an investigation into the syndrome, having until recently refused to accept that it even existed.
