A country cottage, off the peg
Article Abstract:
UK builders are starting to realise that they must offer potential customers homes which are more imaginative and unusual if they are to secure sales in a very competitive market. At the same time, the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) is calling on local councils, the government, builders, professionals and local communities to ensure that new homes are built in styles which are more attractive and more sympathetic to the local area. Buyers are in a strong position, and can afford to be more selective about the type of house they want.

Pile 'em high, sell 'em fast
Article Abstract:
Housing developer Galliard Homes has adopted an unusual approach to marketing. It undertakes high-profile marketing, announcing a weekend when a development is to go on sale. No potential purchaser is allowed to view the homes before that time, no brochures are made available and no estate agents are involved. The company offers a few properties very cheaply, therefore attracting many potential purchasers. It does not allow reservations, but has financial advisers and solicitors at its sales weekends, allowing sales to be completed immediately.
