A country in search of its soul
Article Abstract:
When the Soviet Union existed, achievements by that union were reflected as Russian achievements, but since the demise of the union Russia has had an identity crisis. The situation is aggravated by the fact that 25 million ethnic Russians live in other former Soviet states. The role that the Russian government is developing is not proving unpopular although opinions of Boris Yeltsin are not so favourable. If ethnic problems are encountered, Russia could try to return to a more imperial national identity.
