A degree in nursing? Why not?
Article Abstract:
The UK's universities are in a strong position to educate nurses. Training nurses in universities has a number of benefits, including encouraging the culture of evidence-based practice and ensuring that wider professional training can be carried out at both initial and post-graduate level. Nurse education could be improved even further if National Health Service Trusts and universities offered more joint appointments, ensuring that senior nursing and midwifery staff can gain wider experience of a research and teaching environment.

Carry on nursing, please
Article Abstract:
The UK government and the Royal College of Nursing are seeking to make nursing much more attractive as a career option. Growing emphasis is being placed on nurse education to degree level, and other routes into a nursing career are also being created, including cadet placements. Nursing is being presented as an intellectually stimulating career, but strong emphasis is also being placed on ensuring that student nurses gain appropriate practical skills.

'If we didn't do this, we'd be lost.'
Article Abstract:
It was very exciting to be offered the opportunity to become involved in a start-up venture, according to thestreet.co.uk founder Claudia Jay. She welcomes the fact that the business model for this venture, thestreet.com in the US, has been very successful, but feels that thestreet.co.uk will be strongly focused on UK customers. She believes that this venture will benefit from the fact that Web services are becoming increasingly specialized.
