The US administration has made many miscalculations in handling military action against Afghanistan and the threat of further terrorist attacks within the US. There is still considerable conflict within the administration between those who wish to limit military action to Afghanistan and those who want a wider strategy, particularly against Iraq.

Mujahedin forces start final battle to drive out al-Qa'ida
