A nation in need of a miracle
Article Abstract:
The centre-left Olive Tree coalition government in Italy is rapidly losing popularity, and it now seems unlikely that this government will survive beyond spring 1997. Like all Italian governments since the fall of Benito Mussolini, it is facing very strong local and regional loyalties, making it extremely hard to hold the nation together. It has proved impossible for successive governments to strike a balance between the willingness of ordinary people to be taxed and their desire for spending.

Article Abstract:
Education researchers in the UK believe that they face a very uncertain future. The government has made it clear that education research will not be abandoned, but it could begin to be significantly redistributed shortly. The Office for Standards in Education has instigated a research project to classify the literature of education research, and even education researchers themselves are beginning to question the validity of some areas of research.
