A nightdress, a princess, a coup
Article Abstract:
Considerable media attention has been given to the Dior dress which Princess Diana is to wear to the forthcoming Costume Institute ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This has been designed by John Galliano, who joined Dior at the end of Oct 1996 and with whom Princess Diana has now become very friendly. Designing a dress for Princess Diana has generated a great deal of publicity for Dior. The dress itself is not particularly worthy of note, but the fact that it will be worn by Princess Diana has attracted great attention.

At her best not with baubles but dressed down like a modern woman
Article Abstract:
Diana, Princess of Wales, had a natural sense of style. She was equally comfortable in couture ball gowns and leisure clothing, and did not attempt to be a fashion pioneer. Her clothes never overshadowed her personality, and she always tried to remain in control of her life. She grew experienced at how to be photographed in a flattering manner, and became aware of the great power of her portraits. She inspired many ordinary women because her clothes were those of a working, modern woman.

Will this be Dior's new look?
Article Abstract:
It is rumoured that French fashion house Christian Dior has secretly made arrangements to appoint fashion designer Vivienne Westwood to replace Gianfranco Ferre when he leaves in Oct 1996. This has been denied by Westwood's representatives, who state that she is concentrating on her ready-to-wear spring/summer 1997 show in Paris, France. The fact that Westwood is even under consideration to work at Dior is regarded as a great honour for the British fashion industry.
