A peculiar journey into the heart of my homeland
Article Abstract:
The city of Edinburgh, Scotland, clearly reflects the Scots' very mixed feelings about their relationship with the English. They often resent England as being richer and more powerful than Scotland, but also feel that they are better than the English. The majority of Scots are convinced of the historical significance of the creation of a new Scottish Parliament, but it remains uncertain whether the Scots will be able to grasp this opportunity. It is clear that national identity cannot be strictly defined in Scotland, as the Scots can be Scottish, British, European and many other things.

Excuse me, but what's so odd about a woman going to work?
Article Abstract:
The fact that the Countess of Wessex has decided to continue to work as a public relations executive following her marriage to Prince Edward has attracted considerable media attention. This is strange, given that it is now very common for married women to work outside the home. Many working women suffer high stress levels, but young women now focus on what they will be able to achieve in their own right, rather than on what they can be through their partner's status. This is reflected in the decision by Hillary Clinton to run as Democratic Senator for New York state.

From cowboys to the psychiatrist's couch
Article Abstract:
The controversy surrounding President Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky has highlighted the extent to which a victim culture has become firmly embedded in US society. Clinton himself has been presented as a victim, unable to refuse Lewinsky's advances. The focus on victimhood that now characterizes US society is damaging the rugged individualism and self-reliance that used to be closely associated with what it meant to be American.
