A promise of paradise broken
Article Abstract:
Taffy and Bonnie Bufton, who are originally from Wales, are in dispute with the government of Antigua and Barbuda about efforts to evict them from the small Caribbean island of Guiana, where they have lived since the 1960s. The island, which belongs to Antigua and Barbuda, is shortly to become the location for a $600 million tourism scheme including 2,000 hotel rooms, golf courses and a water theme park. The dispute has become extremely serious since Taffy Bufton threatened attorney Vere Bird Jr, brother of the current Antiguan prime minister. Bufton is accused of attempting to murder Bird.

There's not a lot of coffee in Brazil this year
Article Abstract:
The price paid by large coffee roasting concerns to producers has risen by 40% since Dec 1996. This increase is shortly to be reflected in rises in the retail price of coffee. Some observers are attributing the price rise to poor weather during the harvesting season in central and south America, especially in Colombia and Brazil. Others point to the threat of a strike by Colombian coffee farmers, while others highlight moves by Colombian cocaine cartels to attract coffee bean pickers.
